US spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds took in $1.92 billion in the five trading sessions through August 21, their largest weekly intake since October 2025, according to SoSoValue data compiled by CryptoSlate. A single session on August 20 added $608 million, and August’s cumulative inflows reached $2.07 billion, the highest monthly total of 2026.
The intake reversed a punishing first half of the year. In June, the funds recorded their worst month on record, and outflows persisted into July before the flow picture turned in August.
Institutional demand tracking price
Ecoinometrics, the ETF-flow research firm, noted that sustained inflows at this level would push its modelled fair-value range higher. As of mid-August, its model placed bitcoin in a supported band of roughly $67,000 to $78,000, with estimated fair value near $72,000.
Flow data is a record of buying that has already happened, not a prediction of buying to come. Authorised participants execute the underlying purchases when creation demand appears, and the daily figures settle after the fact. Read in that light, the August prints describe institutional allocators returning to the asset class after a long retreat.
What to watch next
Three signals carry more information than the daily total: the premium or discount of fund shares to net asset value, whether inflows concentrate in a single issuer, and whether holders redeem during drawdowns. A persistent premium means creation demand is outrunning arbitrage; redemptions into weakness would say more about the quality of demand than any inflow headline.
