BitMine, the ethereum treasury company chaired by Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee, appears to have bought another 51,000 ETH — roughly $126 million at prevailing prices — from trading desks FalconX and BitGo on August 31, according to on-chain analytics firm Lookonchain, as reported by The Block and KuCoin News.

The purchase is based on wallet-flow monitoring, and BitMine had not confirmed it in an official statement at the time of reporting. If confirmed, it continues a pattern that has made the company one of the most visible institutional buyers of ether in 2026.

A weekly buying habit

BitMine has bought ETH in most weeks since launching its treasury strategy last summer, per Decrypt’s reporting on the firm. Its largest weekly acquisition of 2026 came in early June, when it added 126,971 ETH worth roughly $214 million during a market sell-off — a purchase chairman Tom Lee defended by saying the pullback did “not reflect the strengthening of Ethereum fundamentals,” according to CoinDesk.

Monday’s apparent purchase of 51,000 ETH is smaller than the June batch but is in the same size class as the company’s regular cadence of multi-thousand-token weekly buys.

How the trade was structured

Lookonchain’s monitoring shows the ETH moving through FalconX and BitGo, two prime brokers commonly used by institutional crypto buyers. Trading through OTC desks rather than public order books lets a buyer accumulate large size without moving the spot market against itself.

The tokens were worth about $126 million at the time of the transaction, with ether trading near $2,465 on exchange data cited by KuCoin.

What this does NOT tell you

On-chain labels are inference, not confirmation. A wallet cluster attributed to BitMine by Lookonchain could in principle include other entities, and flows to an OTC desk do not by themselves prove the final buyer — attribution rests on the pattern matching the firm’s known behaviour. The market impact is also ambiguous: treasury purchases can be absorbed as inventory by the desks, meaning the visible exchange order book may never feel the demand directly.

The takeaway

A single weekly purchase is routine for a firm that has made accumulation its stated strategy. What is more notable is the consistent direction: while some large ETH holders moved tokens toward exchanges in the same period, BitMine keeps buying through intermediaries. The coming quarterly disclosures will show whether the on-chain pattern matches the company’s books.
